FAQS for COVID-19 Positive Cases

What happens if someone tests positive?

  • They are to remain in quarantine for 10 days and must be symptom free at least the last 24 hours before being able to break quarantine.
  • A negative test during this time period does not eliminate quarantine nor is one needed after the completion of the 10 days.

What happens if someone is determined to be presumptive positive?

  • They are to remain in quarantine for 10 days and must be symptom free at least the last 24 hours before being able to break quarantine.
  • A negative PCR test during this time period may eliminate the need to quarantine.

Who is considered a contact of a positive case or a presumptive positive case?

  • A person who has sustained close contact (more than 10 minutes of less than 6 feet of distance) or has been determined to be potential close contacts as per the local health officials.

What is the timeline to determine close contacts of a positive case?

  • If the positive case or presumptive positive case is symptomatic:
    • 48 hours prior to the onset of the symptoms
  •  If the positive case is asymptomatic:
    • 48 hours prior to the date of the test

What should close contacts of a positive case or a presumptive positive case do?

  • They are to stay quarantined for 14 days and must be symptom free at least the last 24 hours before being able to break quarantine.
  • If the presumptive positive case receives a negative test result, the close contacts no longer have to quarantine.
  • If someone is a close contact of a positive case and is unable to be isolated from the positive case, the close contact must be quarantined for at least 24 days.

What if someone is deemed to have Covid symptoms from the daily health questionnaire?
In order to return to school, one of the following must be followed:

  • They are to remain in quarantine for 10 days from the onset of symptoms and must be symptom free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine before returning.

OR

  • They are to remain in quarantine until a negative PCR test result is received.

OR

  • They are to remain in quarantine until receiving an alternate diagnosis from a physician.
