Gifted & Talented
As we embrace gift and talented education, we recognize our responsibilities to our students. We are committed to developing a school wide enrichment model whose mission is to develop the strengths and talents of all students including twice-exceptional and ELL learners. There are many opportunities within the school day to highlight our gifted students by providing these opportunities through ongoing self critique as we begin planning for our next 5 year strategic plan. The schoolwide enrichment model by Joeseph Renzulli and Sally Reis (SEM, Renzulli 1977; Renzulli & Reis, 1985, 1997, 2014) was created to develop the strengths and talents of all students. Our goal is to equip each staff member with the training to instruct every student by addressing their individual capacities.
The Gift and Talented students are selected through multiple means of assessment. We are not looking at academic achievement exclusively. Through teacher recommendation, guidance conferences and intake, I.E.P meetings and 504 plans, student portfolio reviews and auditions, and a waiver process we have have an eclectic and diverse identification of giftedness. We work to avoid stereotypic or reductive definitions of what a gifted teenager looks like. With faculty, S.A.C. counselors, child study team members, Care Plus professionals and our ELL supervisor we also encourage mentoring in small groups.
