The Gender and Sexuality Association (formerly the Gay Straight Alliance) is a student club that celebrates diversity and raises awareness around issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. We seek to help create a school environment free from harassment, intimidation and bullying based on perceived differences. We welcome students of all identities and orientations and we offer a safe space where students are free to be themselves.

Recent Accomplishments

lessonOver the past two years our club worked hard on designing and implementing a health curriculum for Freshmen that raised awareness and respect for diversity in sexuality and gender identity. Pairs of GSA students presented the lesson in a number of health classes. The program will be continued this year. The club will create curriculum to comply with the new state mandates.

Respect Project

Starting in the October the Week of Respect, we asked students, teachers and staff to pose for a photo of themselves holding a white board on which they wrote their own personal message about diversity and respect. These photos were then edited and produced as banners which were hung throughout the school. The banners produced a great deal of positive feedback from not only members of our school community, but visitors as well. They were a very visible sign of the commitment of WH to diversity and respect.
