The Science Department is committed to the school vision of developing critical and creative thinkers who collaborate and communicate effectively to solve academic and real world problems. We offer traditional classes in biology, chemistry and physics, for students of a wide-range of interests in science. Electives in Ecology, Marine Science, Human Biology, Genetics, Forensic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Astronomy, and Aerospace Engineering add to the robust core curriculum students receive at WHRHS. Our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Program allows students to step outside traditional science classes and into the realm of technology based engineering. Science courses at WHRHS are aligned to New Jersey Student Learning Standards which allow for teachers to develop a curricular framework that is not only rich in content but also in the practice of inquiry-based science. To this end, teachers are involved in creating a dynamic curriculum via a team based approach rather than individual approach. This team based approach allows for a broader thought process and the sharing of ideas and materials that expand to all students.
