WHRHS Mathematics Department Mission

The Watchung Hills Regional High School Mathematics Department is dedicated to cultivating critical and creative thinkers who can collaborate and communicate effectively to solve complex, real-world problems. We believe that mathematical proficiency is a cornerstone of success in modern careers, particularly in the ever-evolving fields of science and business. Our department operates on the core belief that every student can achieve excellence through the combined commitment of teachers, students, and families.

We offer a comprehensive suite of courses ranging from foundational Algebra and Geometry to advanced studies in Trigonometry and Calculus. Our robust Advanced Placement (AP) program includes Calculus AB and BC, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, and Statistics.

Innovation in the Classroom

Our educators utilize a diverse array of pedagogical and technological tools—including Desmos graphing calculator technology, interactive Smartboards, and specialized mathematical software—to maximize student achievement. Our curriculum is deeply rooted in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), focusing on the six essential conceptual categories: Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Modeling, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability.

Assessment & Graduation Readiness

To ensure students meet state graduation requirements, our curriculum aligns with the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. Additionally, all 11th-grade students participate in the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) to verify mastery of the skills necessary for post-secondary success.
