The Watchung Hills Regional High School mathematics Department is committed to developing critical and creative thinkers who collaborate and communicate effectively to solve academic and real-world problems. Proficiency in mathematical studies is key to a successful career in many fields such as science and business. The members of the mathematics department believe that all students can succeed in mathematical studies through the combined efforts of teacher, student, and parent in a wide variety of math courses: algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus. We offer courses in Advanced Placement Calculus AB, BC, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles and Statistics.

The teachers of the department use a wide variety of technological and pedagogical tools including Texas Instrument Calculator Technology, Smartboards, and guided/independent practice to maximize student achievement. The curriculum of the mathematics department has roots in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics which will help educate students for college and career readiness. The state of New Jersey is part of a larger consortium of states involved with the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). The goal of PARCC is to have a Common Core of Standards that are the building blocks of K-12 assessments that will assist students in becoming college and career ready. The mathematics department of WHRHS has embraced this change and continues to enhance the curriculum to prepare students for 21st century learning/careers.
