In partnership with Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), Watchung Hills Regional High School offers the Accuplacer test in mathematics to assist students in determining their level of preparedness for college mathematics. When students enroll at RVCC and other similar institutions, they must take the Accuplacer test in mathematics and English to determine proper placement for the first year of college. WHRHS offers the opportunity for students to sit for the math portion of the Accuplacer test during their junior or senior year in high school. Taking this test in high school provides students with a familiar environment and gives them the opportunity to assess their skills while they are still taking a mathematics class. Research has shown that when students are learning math in an academic setting, they are more likely to perform better on standardized testing.
A strong performance on the Accuplacer test will help students avoid remedial mathematics classes if they attend aNew Jersey community college or a college that accepts the Accuplacer test, saving students time and money as they enter the next phase of their academic careers.
The Accuplacer College Level Mathematics Test is a 20-question test, ranging in topics from Algebra to Pre-calculus. Information regarding the test can be found at:http://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/accuplacer-tests.
Performance on this test will not affect a student’s grade at Watchung Hills. The test is simply being used to assiststudents in their college-level placement.
