Mario Diez Supervisor 908-647-4800 Ext. 4924 HEALTH EDUCATION Students are provided with opportunities to explore health-related problems to enable them to make effective decisions concerning their own health and that of their family, friends and community. The courses are designed to provide a broad range of health education topics. Emphasis is placed on those topics of greatest immediate importance to the high school student. Scientific discovery and recent progress in health sciences are examined as an approach to the solution of health problems. The curriculum requirements:
PHYSICAL EDUCATION Students are provided physical education experiences which meet their needs and serve as a basis for future growth and effective decision making in the areas of wellness and fitness. The activities are divided by means of grade level. Freshmen year is devoted to Core Physical Education curriculum. The sophomore, junior and senior years focus on Elective Physical Education curriculum. The core curriculum requirements for 9th grade:

New Jersey Core Curriclum Content Standards for: COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH EDUCATION AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS 2.1 HEALTH PROMOTION AND DISEASE PREVENTION All students will learn health promotion and disease prevention and health-related behaviors. 2.2 PERSONAL, INTERSPERSONAL, AND LIFE SKILLS All students will learn health-enhancing persnal, interpersonal, and life skills 2.3 ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND OTHER DRUGS All students will learn the physical, mental emotional, and sociol effects of the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. 2.4 HUMAN SEXUALITY AND FAMILY LIFE All students will learn the biological, sociol, cultural, and psychological aspects of human sexuality and family life. 2.5 MOVEMENT All students will learn and apply movement concepts and skills that foster participation in physical activities throughout life. 2.6 FITNESS All students will learn and apply health-related fitness concepts. |
