The Director of Curriculum and Instruction works closely with the Principal, the Director of Guidance, the Director of Special Services, the other Supervisors and of course, the teachers to develop the total school curriculum, and assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional plan.The Office of Curriculum and Instruction focuses on the implementation, integration and evaluation of the content/academic programs offered at Watchung Hills Regional High School. With rigorous expectations and a wide-range of opportunities in the areas of Arts/Family and Consumer Sciences, Business/Arts, English, Mathematics, Physical Education and Health, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages, there is collaboration among teachers, staff, administrators, students, and the community to provide a meaningful educational experience for each individual with a focus on student-centered learning. School communities that build a culture of collective responsibility with a sharing of best practics, and an agreement to make data driven decisions stand out for their commitment to focus on student achievement. With an emphasis on continuous improvement, and on 21st century learning skills, there is close alignment with the updated New Jersey and Common Core Standards. Professional development for all faculty members is at the forefront of the endeavors of this office, with opportunities for the staff to become involved in Professional Learning Communities, participate in monthly Strategies for Success sessions, and to attend workshops and conferences on the local, state and national level. Staying abreast of current research, sharing best practices, and improving continually upon classroom instruction are key objectives which drive our mission. These strategies will ensure that the WHRHS faculty members prepare our students to be critical thinkers with social and emotional intelligence, so our students will be confident in facing challenges beyond high school. The administrators and the teachers are committed to creating optimal opportunities for our students' success.
